Keith Hall is a London‑born contemporary abstract artist based in Shanghai. His practice
explores the transmission of energy between body, gesture, and material surface, approaching painting as a physical and intuitive act rather than a predetermined composition. Working instinctively, Hall allows movement, pressure, and rhythm to guide the formation of
each work. Layers of acrylic, latex washes, and pigment accumulate through a process of
action and response, creating surfaces that record the immediacy of the artist’s gestures. The resulting compositions balance moments of raw intensity with areas of stillness, allowing
the open ground of the canvas to breathe within the composition. Hall’s paintings are characterized by strong structural lines, fractured fields of colour, and
delicate veils of translucent paint. Gold and silver leaf are often embedded within the surface, catching light across raised textures and creating subtle shifts in luminosity. These reflective
elements interact with the painted marks so that the work changes in presence depending
on light, distance, and viewpoint. Textile elements and layered materials occasionally appear within the work, extending the
language of painting into tactile, sculptural territory. Through this interplay of gesture, texture, and reflective surfaces, Hall constructs dynamic compositions that hover between
abstraction, imagined environments, and subtle spiritual resonance. Although non‑representational, the works often suggest atmospheric spaces or fragmented
landscapes, inviting viewers into contemplative fields of movement and tension. Each
painting functions as a trace of embodied experience—an exchange between energy, material, and time.
